Literacy Specialist

Job Title: Literacy Specialist

Contract Length: 240 days

SUMMARY:

The Literacy Specialist shall share responsibilities with Specialists

in the other educational service cooperatives to meet the goals and

state standards through implementation of a statewide professional

development network.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific performance responsibilities of the Literacy Specialist

are as follows:


1. The Literacy Specialist shall participate in professional

development, staff meetings, local training, and state/national

conferences to maintain a high level of professionalism or

credentials.


2. The Literacy Specialist shall conduct independent research

and maintain, summarize, and provide records, and research data as

needed to support the continuance of specific practices.


3. The Literacy Specialist shall provide the following

services to Arkansas school districts: on-site technical assistance,

models of best practices, observation and coaching of teachers,

support of school district’s curriculum development, and professional

development and leadership.


4. The Literacy Specialist shall maintain a current knowledge

of research and effective practices in the areas of literacy

development, literacy instruction and professional development.


5. The Literacy Specialist shall work with other educational

specialists, organizations, agencies, and institutions of higher

education to support the goals and priorities of the Cooperative.


6. The Literacy Specialist shall develop a working knowledge

of technology and media to enhance the delivery of instruction in

reading/writing literacy.


7. The Literacy Specialist shall perform other duties and

special projects as assigned by the Cooperative Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree or higher preferred) in the area of specialty

  • Hold a current Arkansas Teaching License

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of recent Literacy teaching experience in a classroom setting

  • Experience in adult learning situations and team problem solving

  • Supervisory experience (preferred)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

● Specialist will be required to stand for longer periods of time to provide professional learning opportunities to teachers (approximately 6 hours per day), walk to interact with teachers, sit, stoop, or crouch

● Use hands to handle or feel, type, and pick up objects, and reach with hands and arms

● Effective Oral and Written Communication

● Ability to drive to provide support on-site for districts

● Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
